Duke Children’s Represented at Dance Marathon National Conference

Students and advisors traveled to Indianapolis, IN last weekend to represent Duke Children’s

During the weekend of July 13-15, over 900 Miracle Network Dance Marathon student leaders, campus advisors, and hospital advisors from across the country joined together at the JW Marriott in Indianapolis, Indiana for the 2018 Dance Marathon Leadership Conference (DMLC).

DMLC offers students the opportunity to attend educational sessions to learn leadership skills, trends in peer-to-peer fundraising, and best practices for campus engagement and event planning. They also are able to network with other Dance Marathon leadership from across the country to share ideas and discuss opportunities for collaboration. In total, over 190 programs from across the United States attended the conference.

Educational sessions were facilitated by CMN Hospitals staff members and Dance Marathon student leaders, and covered a wide variety of topics. These included breakouts focusing on fundraising, recruitment, leadership development, public relations, participant experience, data tracking, year-long planning, and alumni engagement.

Duke Children’s hospital had 12 representatives for the weekend, including students and advisors. Three programs were in attendance: Elonthon at Elon University, Dance Marathon at NC State, and Dubthon at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington. During the 2017-2018 school year, these programs (as well as Devilthon at Duke University) raised over $600,000 to bring hope to children and families at Duke Children’s. The hospital is fortunate to be able to partner with such driven and compassionate student leaders. Our team is excited to see how these students and their programs grow in the coming year. Thank you, Dance Marathon teams!
