Dance Marathon Fundraising Recap: Nov. 3-5, 2017
During the weekend of Nov. 3-5, 13 Miracle Network Dance Marathon programs from across the United States hosted their annual Dance Marathon events, helping to raise over $638,777 for local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
So far in 2017, Miracle Network Dance Marathon programs have raised over $31 million, which is approximately a 20% increase over 2016 fundraising at this point in the year
Baylor University:
On Nov. 3, Baylor University For The Kids hosted their third annual Dance Marathon event, raising $12,000 for McLane Children’s in Temple, TX.

Bellarmine University:
Bellarmine University Dance Marathon announced their 2017 fundraising total of $25,773 after their six-hour Dance Marathon. Their fundraising benefits Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville, Ky.

Bloomsburg University:
Students at Bloomsburg University came together this year to host the inaugural Bloomsburg University Dance Marathon event and raised $5,378 for Geisinger Janet Weis Children’s Hospital in Danville, Pa.

Children’s Bridges Dance Marathon:
Children’s Bridges Dance Marathon is hosted by the Children’s Bridges Teen Leadership Council, a teen-led organization comprised of high school students from several schools in the Chicago area that work to fundraise for Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago, Ill. This year, 210 students registered for the event and raised a total of $65,073.66, a 75% increase over their total from 2016.

Duke University:
DevilThon at Duke University hosted their Dance Marathon event on Nov. 5 and raised $20,000.41 for the kids at Duke Children’s Hospital in Durham, N.C.

Johns Hopkins University:
Dance Marathon at JHU increased their fundraising by 38% from 2016, announcing their total of $61,746.08 for Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore, Md. Their 12-member executive board each individually raised an average of $1,300 and the top individual fundraiser, Emilie Hoffer, who was participating on the team Elle’s Belles, received 24 separate donations from family and friends and raised $6,000!

Lamar University:
After having to reschedule their event due to Hurricane Harvey, Lamar University Dance Marathon rallied their campus together and hosted their inaugural event on Nov. 4, raising $4,730 for CHRISTUS Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth in Beaumont, Texas and CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Jasper Memorial in Jasper, Texas. Throughout Hurricane Harvey, CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth never closed it’s doors, treating over 1,400 patients throughout the storm and immediate aftermath. Lamar University Dance Marathon’s fundraising efforts will certainly help the hospital continue to provide the best support for it’s pediatric patients.

Loyola Marymount University:
Loyola Marymount Dance Marathon, hosted by the campus’s chapter of Alpha Phi, hosted their fourth annual Dance Marathon on Nov. 4, raising $17,400 for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

Syracuse University:
OttoTHON, Syracuse University’s Dance Marathon, brought hundreds of students together for 12 hours of dancing, games, stories from patient families and fundraising at their event on Nov. 5. This year, the students raised an incredible $156,165.11, making it their highest annual fundraising total in their history and a 40% increase over their 2016 total. By the end of the event, 30 students had individually raised over $1,000 and, on average, their 865 registered dancers individually fundraised $162.00. Tennessee Tech University:
In 2016, Tennessee Tech University hosted its first Dance Marathon event, which had 149 dancers register and raised $5,466. In 2017, TTU Miracle had 794 dancers register and raised $61,830, an incredible 1,031% increase in fundraising. Fraternities and sororities paired together in teams for their fundraising efforts and Alpha Delta Pi sorority and Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity were the highest fundraising team, raising $16,425.06. Delta Phi Epsilon/Phi Gamma Delta ($15,511) and Kappa Delta/Sigma Chi ($14,126.93) were the second and third highest fundraising teams respectively. TTU Miracle’s fundraising benefits Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tenn.

University of Cincinnati:
On Nov. 4, University of Cincinnati Dance Marathon hosted their 12-hour Dance Marathon and raised $58,022.29 for Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. This year, UC Dance Marathon had 700 students register for the event, with an average of $56.00 raised per dancer. Phi Mu and Sigma Alpha Epsilon, organizations that support Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals as their national philanthropic partner, were the two highest fundraising student organizations, raising $6,764 and $5,830 respectively.

Washington University in St. Louis:
In their 18th year on campus, Dance Marathon at Washington University in St. Louis raised $121,449.50 for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals of Greater St. Louis, which benefits two local hospitals, St. Louis Children’s Hospital and SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital. On the day of their event alone, dancers worked together to raise $20,000 as a last push before announcing their final fundraising total.
Western Carolina University:
Western Carolina University Dance Marathon brought together students from all across campus, including fraternities and sororities, residence halls, and student organizations, registering 200 dancers who collectively helped to raise $29,209 for Greenville Health System in Greenville, S.C. This total represents a 36% increase over their 2016 fundraising total.

Miracle Network Dance Marathon is an international movement, involving students at over 300 colleges and universities across North America that fundraise for their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
