Delta Air Lines, a Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals corporate partner, recently made a $50,000 gift to support a new Child Life specialist position at Duke Children’s. Child Life specialists are pediatric health care professionals who are specially trained to work with children and families in hospitals and other settings to help them cope with the challenges of hospitalization, illness, and disability.

In recognition of this support, Duke Children’s created a new Delta Air Lines activity cart to enhance the work of the Child Life team with the patients at the hospital. The activity cart is stocked with craft activities, games, and art supplies and, thanks to its mobility, it can travel to children’s rooms and between different units in the hospital to meet the current needs. Delta Air Lines representatives Don Hassinger and Jennifer Hutcheon joined Duke Children’s Child Life specialist Clare Tiemann to inaugurate the new activity cart, and celebrated this milestone with several Duke Children’s patients.
