Christmas in July

The 15th Christmas in July at Duke Children’s was Saturday, July 15, and once again it was a huge success! This annual event is organized by William Winford of the Walmart Transportation Center in Hope Mills, North Carolina, through their CMN Hospitals partnership.

191 motorcycles, 20 corvettes, and 15 police motorcycles drove from Hope Mills to Durham, and had a police escort through each county they crossed. The riders raised thousands of dollars and brought over 800 individual toys and several cases of small Beanie Baby dolls to give to the Duke Children’s patients. After their journey, the riders enjoyed a BBQ lunch in one of the Duke Hospital parking garages, then walked to Duke Children’s to unload the toys and hear from a grateful patient family. The patient, Gavin, loved seeing the cars and motorcycles drive into the Duke Hospital parking garage!

21 unique Duke Children’s programs received toys, including the Intensive Care Nursery, the Pediatric ICU, the Child Abuse and Neglect Medical Evaluation clinic, Bull City Fit and Healthy Lifestyles, and several Duke outpatient clinics.

An enormous thank you to William, Ponce Chavis, and all the riders and supporters!
