Duke Children’s Hearts Phi Mu

Women from Phi Mu show off their masterpieces.

Sorority women from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill joined Duke Children’s patients for a Valentine’s Day craft on January 30. The Phi Mu Gamma Lambda chapter, a proud Children’s Miracle Network partner and supporter of Duke Children’s, planned the activity and brought their artistic talents to our inpatients units for a Terrific Tuesday activity. Terrific Tuesday is a wonderful way for our community partners to meet and interact with the kids that they support with their year-round fundraising. The patients enjoyed the craft and getting to spend time with the college students.

Duke Children’s has greatly benefited from the partnership that we have with the local Phi Mu chapter. Over the last three years, Phi Mu at UNC-Chapel Hill has raised over $28,000 for the hospital. Their support has enabled the hospital to provide educational materials for the Sickle Cell transition program that helps adolescents, clothing for parents and children admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit, music therapy and art education for kids in the hospital, and so much more. These funds are raised through two annual fundraising events, one held in the fall semester and one in the spring semester. They also provide in-kind donations throughout the year, such as holiday themed baskets that brighten the patient’s day and craft materials that our Child Life team can use.

We feel the love that these women have for our patients, and our patients love them just as much. Thank you for everything that you do for Duke Children’s through your continued Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals fundraising.

The Valentine’s Day themed craft was a huge hit with patients at Duke Children’s.
