Duke Children’s Celebrates 30-Year Relationship with Walmart
Duke Children’s Hospital will celebrate its 30-year relationship with Walmart and Sam’s Club, proud supporters of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, at a special mural unveiling ceremony on April 20. The mural, painted by Durham-based artist Freeman Beard, is dedicated to Walmart and Sam’s Club customers, members and associates, and greets patients and visitors as they enter pediatric inpatient units at Duke University Hospital.
“Relationships like this enable Duke Children’s to continue our mission of providing world-class, cutting-edge care and treatment to the patients and families who walk through our doors,” stated Ann M. Reed, MD, William Cleland Professor of Pediatrics, Chair of the Duke Department of Pediatrics, and Physician-in-Chief at Duke Children’s. “Thank you to Walmart and Sam’s Club for supporting pediatric healthcare and the physicians, staff, and patients at Duke Children’s.”
“We are proud to support the daily miracles happening at Duke Children’s,” said regional Walmart manager Brent Rains. “Through our relationship with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Walmart and Sam’s Club stores in our region have raised over $17 million for patient care and research at Duke Children’s. Our associates could not be more passionate about helping the patients and families of Duke Children’s, and we look forward to continuing our support of this great institution for years to come.”
The unveiling ceremony will take place at 3:30pm on Thursday, April 20, in the lobby of the Duke Children’s Hospital & Health Center, and will feature remarks from hospital staff and local dignitaries, including Dr. Reed. Attendees will be able to view the mural and refreshments will be served.
